In August 1996 our friend Sue “rescued” (she was r-e-a-l-l-y drunk at the time) this dog. He was a 4 month old Husky/Shepherd cross named Manitou. After one week, we took him because Sue’s husband and two boys were allergic and her daughter was terrified of him. LOL. So began our journey…

Manitou or Manny for short, came to our place and quickly established himself as a member of our family. He would frustrate us to no end for the first few years. I can’t count how many times the dog has escaped. We’d get calls from various people.”Would you come get your dog?” This summer Manny ran away. We looked all over, called out for him for over 12 hours. Nothing. At 11:30 at night we got a call from our next door neighbor. “Can you come get your dog?” (He was sleeping in their garage all day….25 ft away from our house. ROFL.) He has chased down deer twice and caught them twice. Twice Steve has had to pull the dog off the exhausted deer so it can escape. He has chased and killed wild turkeys, hares, foxes, ‘coons, got into a fight with a fisher and won and finally got a hold of the squirrel who has been tormenting him two weeks ago.I can’t count how many times he has gotten into a tussel with skunks. He killed the skunks but then had to be tomato juiced as his prized. He finally learned to leave the back ‘n white stinky kitties alone two years ago. ROFL.

He lived for the cold weather and would start crying when he heard the skidoo fire up because it meant a long hard run chasing turkeys. God help you if you went without him. You couldn’t handle the whining. :P He lived for leftover spaghetti, muffin papers, chewing gum, when the hickory nuts fell from the tree each fall (snacktime!!), when we had our annual party each August (he would steal pizza and sandwiches from people’s plates and then lie bloated and farting at the firepit until 4 in the morning) and absolutely loved clementines at Christmas. When Julie was little he would come in and run to the high chair snorfling up all the crumbs. When she got out of the high chair, he’d run to her place in the dining room after cleaning out the cat food leftovers.

He hated carrots and would look at you as if to say “You expect me to eat this shit?”  He would pick them up in his mouth and spit them out on the lawn in disgust.ROFL He hated water past his belly, getting his nails clipped, going for a drive and getting his Husky fur brushed. That job usually took 2 hours with a few wrestling matches in between. :P

Most of all his favorite thing was to be with his family, lying on his blanket, cracking off a fart that would make a sailor gag and spending time with us getting his belly rubbed and getting a cookie. For the 13 1/2 years he has lived here he has had a pretty good life. Lots of love, exercise and leftovers. He has made friends with all the neighbors and would go sauntering off visiting them because it meant more cookies, T-bones or rubs. He was the best at scaring Jehovah Witnesses from our door and even had the water guy & hydro meter reader trained to give him cookies so they could do their job quietly. ROFL.
Friday, Manitou lost control of his back end. His bowels and kidneys shut down.He could still stand and walk though. We made the decision to put him down so his suffering would end and while we waited for his appointment we walked with him.The dog never stopped from 3 in the morning until we made him stop in the afternoon. We walked all over the property at least 250 times so he could sniff everything that was familiar and then we walked around the neighbor’s so he could do the same there.I stopped to give him a  cookie and he took it in his mouth and put it down 20 feet away and continued to walk. Our next door neighbor Greg came over, gave him rubs, told him he loved him and then  walked with him for awhile too. He came to me and told me to “bring the dog home and bury him on the farm. He’s family. Family stays together. End of discussion.” Manny just looked at us. His face was so sad. He knew his time was near but he didn’t want to leave us. That afternoon Steve put him in the truck and took him for his last drive. He was taken to the vet where they gently and humanely put our dear friend down and put an end to his pain. Steve carried his body back to the truck and took him home to be buried. In his grave are his favorite blanket, a bag of cookies, dog food, a note from Julie telling him how much she loved him and a picture of his family so he can meet us when our time is up.

MannyNov27-09

Our journey with Manitou has ended……..Rest in peace. :-(

My guess is by the time you get to my blog post, you will already have been braving the crowds since 4 am and am exhausted. Am I right? We dont have Black Friday up here in Canada..cops are too busy at the donut shop for crowd control anyway. :P

Well yesterday was a busy one. Had to run to Caledonia again except this time to sign the check to pay my Hydro bill (Kris had a brain fart). Came back, put up the tree where I wanted it and then had to move it to the regular place because it completely took up the livingroom and blocked the entire TV (and there is no way in hell I am gonna listen to the man-beast WHINE because the TV is blocked). So …it turns out I moved the damn furniture 3 times for nothing. ROFL. Went into Dunnville to pick up my ring that getting sized and then picked up my reading glasses so now I can finally see straight. (unfortunately now I can see how filthy my house is. LOL ) Came home , set Julez up with her half of the Christmas decorations and then made supper. I got some scrap therapy done also with a new kit of Kim’s called Merry & Bright!

kb-merryandbright

and it’s on sale for $2.50 this weekend too!!! ( but only for the weekend!!)

I recolored the ribbons this time..

Logan is the daughter of a friend of mine back in my hometown. Gorgeous child!! Thanks Kim for giving me access to your albums!! ♥ ♥

What’s up for me today? Sleep. I’ve been up since 3:30 with our dog. His hips aren’t working, he can’t poop and he’s in pain. Steve is on night shift and Manny is HIS dog so the BIG decision has to come from him but he’s ever the optimist that the dog is just “playing up to my soft side and sucking up for a cookie”. Maybe so but I also know when things aren’t right….and things aren’t right with the dog :-(

Kim has all kinds of stuff going on this weekend!! She’s got a new grab bag out as well as her entire store is on sale for the weekend. The best deals are had today but you can still get great deals on Sat & Sun too!!

Renee has her store on sale too.

Morning peoples! I have so much stuff on the go and very little time to get it done so I’m just gonna blurb it all out and hope I got it all. LOL

No baking yesterday for me. It was pouring rain and I wasn’t feeling energetic. The phone kept ringing all day too. Moved my living room furniture around 3 times getting ready for the tree. Hard to do that and keep the cats happy (so they look out the window), the dog happy (who likes the heat register) and the hubby happy (DON”T block the FREAKIN’ TV!!!). I finally got REALLY fed up and said screw it. (actually I said something else, but I will leave THAT to your imagination.ROFL.). I’m setting the tree up this morning while the kid’s at school and hubby is sleeping so there won’t be anymore “suggestions” on how to do the job…Julie and I will decorate it this afternoon when she gets home from school. I will bake again this weekend….maybe. LOL

OK what else is going on here? Oh yeah…Kim has (or will have rather) a new CU bag on Black Friday at both DSO and The Vault.

kb-blackfriday-grabbag

Stuffed to the gills with all kinds of goodies!! All are quality checked and all are FABULOUS!!!! :D and because she’s a complete loon she has also marked her store down in increments..:P

KimB-blackFriday

Each day everything (except grab bags and dollar items) will be marked down a different percentage. Swing by on Black Friday to get the best deal!!! :D

Also…Renee has a killer sale going on in her store for the weekend. All her products are marked down to $1.50 each until Sunday! Sweeeeeeeeett!!!

And….

DbyK_BF-Ad50

All of my products are marked down50% until Sunday night! Treat yourself to some goodies while it’s cheap!!! :D

Well I think that’s all the enabling I have … let’s get to the goodies shall we?

It is Humpday isn’t it? I swear I’ve been whirling so much I don’t know my ass from my elbow! ROFL!! I’m at the point where I see any more icing sugar I’m going to gag. Got the double batch of date squares done yesterday but then got seriously sidetracked by the man of the house. Helped him with the dog house and then we went shopping for an electric fireplace insert. I have to wait another year for my dining room cabinet because we can’t afford it this year. My dining room stuff has been packed since we moved here 14 years ago…what’s another year?! LOL! He found the fireplace insert he wanted and so this winter he’ll putter away at constructing the firebox, and mantle. I have a sneaking suspicion there will be no new computer tower on Boxing Day… anyhoo, we went for lunch and by the time we got home it was just before Julez came home from school. Made supper, moved the furniture around again and then we had company last night so I didn’t get any more baking done. Today he is back on night shifts so today is shortbread day and I’ll make a few batches of the easy fudge with marshmallows, nuts and Carnation milk….If I screw THAT up I should just walk away and cut my losses. ROFL!! He’s been eating the maple cream taffy on ice cream and by the spoonful. I see cavities in his future. :P

Dear Santa…for Christmas I would like a new candy thermometer please…..

Terri I will admit I was laughing my butt off this morning reading your comment. The last time I mailed somethihg to the States it took 3 weeks. ROFL! The USPS is a real peach. I don’t think you want green, furry fudge so I will just keep it here in the freezer for when you come ok?! LOL (bring long johns. Canada is ALOT colder than Hawaii) :P

Well I’m going to cut this short as I want to get crackin’ on the fudge so I can finish decorating the house. He’s been told to get the tree out of the basement and bring it upstairs. I’ll set it up tonight and then Julie and I will decorate it tomorrow while you guys are noshing on turkey and trimmings. I decided not to cook a turkey this year for the USA Turkey Day. (I was born in Minnesota and let’s face it, any excuse to cook a bird is allright by me so I celebrate both Cdn and USA turkey days) however hubs is working and I’m putting on the Christmas feast this year for his family and frankly I don’t have the freezer room anymore. Tomorrow’s dinner might consist of pork tenderloin or Kraft Dinner…it all depends on how sick of my kitchen I am.. (at the rate I’m going it will be Kraft Dinner) ROFL!!

OK on to the next bit..

Day25

Sorry, no longer available.

Off to get Julie her tea and then make fudge…see ya tomorrow!!! Mwah! ♥♥♥

It’s pretty sad when I have to make a list and write down everything I’ve done in the past few days just so I can remember..ROFL But here goes..

Friday: I scrapped… I made more pages with Kim’s fabbo kit Christmas First as well as Jazzy’s co-ordinating wordart.

GrandadsJoyCmas1965-600

This is Christmas 1965 and that wee booty is Steve’s with his Grandad who passed away when he was 18.

Cmas1964-600

And this one is Christmas 1964. Steve is is the baby in the christening gown with his mom, dad and older brother. This is the only picture he has of the four of them together :-(

Saturday: Got Julie packed up because she was invited to a birthday in Niagara Falls. The two mom’s rented a hotel room and invited 7 little girls to spend the night. They swam in the indoor pool, went hot-tubbin’ ,played in the indoor playground, went to see the Falls at night and the Christmas light display and had a blast. After I dropped her off I drove to Caledonia & bought myself a George Foreman grill with some birthday money. Always wanted one of those suckers and they are awesome!!! Drove to Hamilton to visit Steve’s aunt and uncle and had coffee with them. Speaking of coffee. I was bringing it so I swung thru a Tim Horton’s drive -thru closest to their place… took me 40 minutes to get thru the drive thru. 40 freakin’ minutes? Are you kidding me? By the time it was my turn to put my order I was NOT a happy camper and was very vocal about my displeasure. She wasnt in training either. She was chatting with a  girlfriend. ;-( I fired off a letter of complaint, I was so mad. Anyway after spending the afternoon in the city, I came home & fired up George and cooked filet mignon for Steve and shrimp for my supper. Yummm!! Our exciting kidless night consisted of Steve watching hockey and me falling asleep on the couch with a cat on my belly at 9:30. ROFL

Sunday: I was up bright and early at 6am (like usual..sigh) however I decided it was a great time to start my Christmas baking. :P Got a batch of Snickerdoodles made and double batch of Apricot Dainties done before I had to pick Julie up at 1. Got her home, she fired up the Wii and I conked on the couch with a cat on my feet. (same cat) LOL Got our supper done, threw Miss Thang into the tub and she was sound asleep at 7:10.  “But mom…I’m not tired”…famous last words. Haha! Rearranged the living room furniture a little bit to make room for the Christmas tree which will be put up sometime this week. Steve came home late after hockey and we just lounged a bit before we both decided we couldn’t keep our eyes open any longer and to head ‘er to bed… (we’re livewires aren’t we?! LOL)

Monday: I woke up, made coffee, got the kid on the school bus and started making maple cream fudge. This was a PITA. It has been 20 or so years since I made it last and let me tell ya making cooked fudge is a HELL of a lot easier when you have a candy thermometer….It didn’t set up like I wanted it too so it looks like Steve has goop…yummy goop, but goop. :P . Then I had this feeling like I forgot something important. Couldn’t think of what it was so I forgot it and made chocolate macaroons and froze them. Steve went and took the dog for a long walk and got some great shots of the eagles. He got shots of the pair together,

IMG_4737

closer ones of the male and then he got REALLY excited when he got shots of the female pooping before she flew away.

2

And to think he’s all mine…ROFL My guess is that the female was aiming her butt at Steve and trying to tell him to “eat shit and die..” Haha!

Julie came home from school which was when I found out what it was that I forgot. I forgot to take her to school early for a class trip. She missed it. Sorry honey!! Mom has brain farts… ;-( Took her to the eye doctor’s to pick up her glasses and found out mine had to be sent back because one lens had the wrong prescription. Should be back by the end of the week… Made a freakin’ fabulous supper if I do say so myself (parmesan crusted pork tenderloin) and then relaxed with the hubs.

Today: More baking. LOL I’m making my mom’s date squares, shortbread & then if I’m feeling energetic I’m going to try and make Buckeyes. Never made those before so this should be cute. Wonder how much icing sugar I can get over myself today?! LOL

Well I guess I better get my butt in gear and start chopping dates. On to the freebie!!

Day24

Sorry, no longer available.

Ok that’s it for me today! See ya later gaters!! :D

Morning! I’m a little slow on the uptake this morning (probably because of this freakin’ survey..). Had a busy weekend but I’ll chat you up tomorrow and tell ya what has been done :P

Do you think a lot of people think bad things about you?
I’m sure they do , but I don’t much care.

Are you waiting for something?
Yeah.for hubby to go on night shift on Wednesday so I can have control of the freakin’ remote.

Do you hate the last person you kissed?
Nope, I gave birth to her.:)

I don’t think so. Requires too much energy.

When was the last time you wanted to punch someone in their face?
Last week I wanted to paste Steve upside the head with my chair…does that count?! LOL

Has anyone ever told you they love you?
Yeah. Hubby and kid tell me all the time. Drunks tell me that too at our annual party. :P

When was the last time you were disappointed?
Last week when Connie had to go home….

Ummmmm…can’t remember the last time the phone was for me…
